Water Well Rehabilitation in Michigan
Michigan has more households served by water wells than any other state
Water wells are essential for the a large percentage of Michigan’s population, but over time, their performance can deteriorate due to clogging, encrustation, and biological fouling. When a well shows reduced output, higher pumping costs, or degraded water quality, rehabilitation is often a more cost-effective solution than drilling a new one. Cotey Chemical, a pioneer in well maintenance and rehabilitation solutions, offers a comprehensive range of products tailored to tackle the root causes of well decline.
Common Causes of Well Deterioration in Michigan
Water well inefficiencies typically stem from:
-
Iron and manganese oxide buildup
-
Mineral scaling (calcium, magnesium, etc.)
-
Biofouling caused by iron bacteria and sulfate-reducing bacteria
These issues reduce water flow by clogging screens, gravel packs, and the formation itself.
The Cotey Chemical Approach to Well Rehabilitation
Cotey Chemical has developed a series of specialized products that clean and restore well performance without harming the surrounding aquifer. Our chemical formulations are field-tested and widely used by water well professionals across the U.S. and internationally.
Key Products for Well Rehabilitation
1. Liquid Descaler
-
A powerful bended organic and mineral acid-based cleaner designed to remove iron, manganese, scale buildup, and biofouling.
-
Contains inhibitors so that its non-corrosive to metal well components when used as directed.
-
Keeps dissolved solids in suspension more efficiently than other mineral acids improving well rinse-out.
2. Dry Acid® Special
- Dissolves limestone, hard-water scale, rust and corrosion deposits.
- Keeps dissolved solids in suspension more efficiently than other mineral acids improving well rinse-out.
- Use to develop new wells producing from limestone or calcareous sand and gravel formations.
- Use to redevelop old wells that have hard-water scale, rust or corrosion deposits plugging the perforations, screen or formation.
3. Bioclean
- Removes biofilm produced by slime-forming bacteria, such as that produced by iron-oxidizing and sulfate-reducing bacteria,
- Improve rinse-out of well treated with mineral acid by dispersing carbonate, sulfate, magnesium and iron deposits.
- Can be used with Dry Acid® Special to address biofouling
4. Wel-Chlor PLUS
- Wel-Chlor PLUS compares to Sterilene, a popular sanitizer that is no longer on the market.
- Removes and/or precipitates iron, manganese, nitrates and sulfites (not sulfates)
- Has a neutral pH, therefore needs no pH adjustment. This makes it up to 200 times more effective than other chlorine products that are not pH adjusted.
- Dissolves 5 x faster than calcium hypochlorite
- Has a longer shelf life than either calcium or sodium hypochlorite
- Certified ANSI/NSF Standard 60
